Pitch Assault Group, Trip 68.

 

Lundi, day 39 of Spring, 557

With the Portals once again in Camp Dred, we gathered there and saved quite some time in arriving at the Pitch caves.

The fight from PC1 to PC5 was uneventful and fairly quick, since the set-up went well at each new cave we broached.

Since we had 2 Mystics today, Rincewind teleported the small initial runner group to clear the PC6 Landing Zone of Arachnoids for us.

 

 

 

When the all-clear signal was given, Raldin then teleported the remainder of the group to PC6.

With the Landing Zone nearly clear already, set-up was smooth and quick.

While planting Kudzu walls along the North corridor and trying to reach the South pit to seal it off, I ended up with several Crimson Noids on my tail. Instead of flooding them onto the fighters who were still finishing off the few Noids left down in the LZ, I ran them into the North pit before falling. I got to watch the ceiling for awhile, before being chained back to the roup and raised.

By that time, the cavern was nearly cleared of Noids, and we soon moved up to assail PC7.

In PC7, we made what seemed like good progress, but trouble was brewing.

When the cave seemed clear, Yor gave the signal for the main group to move up from the South chamber to the far North chamber. Just when we were all moving, the group was neatly cut in half by a mob of Crimson and Pitch Noids.

Fighters tried to keep control and kill Noids, but with the group disorganized and moving, the Noids have all the advantage. Many exiles fell until only those who retreated to the South or who pressed on to the North remained.

These two pockets of resistance lasted for quite some time, but were eventually whittled down by webs and direct attacks. Neither group had enough healer strength to maintain a rod and raise the seriously fallen, nor enough fighter strength to actually thin the mass of Arachnoids.

Before the inevitible collapse, some exiles managed to escape via hastily openned ethereal portals.

We seemed to be doing so well, but PC7 has nasty tricks up its sleeve.
