Pitch Assault Group, Trip 72.

Terrdi, day 64 of Summer, 557

If great success often brings great disaster soon after, one wonders why disaster can so often be followed by greater disaster.

Today was an epic disaster. A comedic tragedy of errors.

After last week's teleport snafu, CJ parker was adamant at keeping the group small today, with no guests. With only one Mystic present, that was pretty well a given anyway.

I had still not spoken to any trainer since reading Chapter 1 of Trillbane's Commentaries, and Ankrus was screaming in my ear constantly to seek out Chapter 2. In the meantime, I had been hunting diligently to have a store of experience saved up. So had several other pathfinders in the group, who had also finished Chapter 1 by now. They also found the chapter to consist of only 9 lessons, which seems curious.

So we were hopeful that many pathfinders would be able to renew training with the next chapter, pushing us to reach the book again.

However, the best laid plans may well go astray ...

While setting up in Pitch Cave 1, things looked very good until the Kudzu team (Noivad and I) entered to seal off the pits, only to waltz right into the midst of a large spawn of Crimson Noids in what sould have been an empty cave. We both were pulled in and felled quickly.

From there, things just got worse, as further attempts at set-up failed, and the trip inexoribly morphed into a mission to merely rescue some of the ever-growing pile of fallen exiles in Pitch Cave 1. We never did gain the upper hand or any momentum today, despite numerous attempts, both valiant and foolhardy, to wrest it away from the Arachnoids.

In the end, exhausted and irritable, we had rescued nearly everyone and decided to call it a day, and walked or were dragged home.
