Lundi, day 67 of Autumn, 546.

Today, I heard of a Valley rescue when I stepped from the library, but it was far too late to join it. When the rescuers returned to town, however, they were full of stories of the several Angry Mother Sasquatches they had raced past on their way home.

Several exiles decided to return to hunt these, and I joined them. Along with the usual assortment of Valley Cougars and Young Sasquatches, we found three AMS, and managed to kill two of them before someone got seriously hurt. Manx was rodding the AMS so we fighters could whiff it to death, and caught a rock from the third AMS full on. She was beyond the power of Astor and Kirth Gersen (who is quite a well-trained Horus healer) to raise, so we decided to head home. While running the AMS during our scramble to clear the Cave Cobras from the exit cave, Jo Maril was also squashed, and both he and Manx went home on my chain. It was a fun hunt, even if we did not totally accomplish all our objectives.

Merdi, day 63 of Autumn, 546.

It seemed simple enough. Four fighters (Coeur, Mouser, Slasher and myself) and Luce as healer set out to hunt in the East Cove cave of Kizmia's Island in the predawn hours.

As we stepped ashore, the cave cobras swarmed us, four of them.

I managed to grab Mouser on a chain, but fell just steps away from the boat. Some had been attracted to Luce offshore, and effectively blocked my escape.

Only Slasher was able to escape to the safety of the waters offshore, where Luce was waiting. While she started healing him, an enormous swarm of plankton descended on them, leaving them both fallen as well.

A total disaster.

Curiously, while we were waiting for help, I watched 3 of the cobras attack and kill a tan Lyfelidae (possibly an Orgaberry or Wyrm).

In the quiet before dawn, there were not many exiles awake in the Lands. It seems like most everyone who was awake came to help with the rescue, though.

The first few brave souls merely added to the carnage, as they tried to dash ashore with a chain in hand and got trapped by the swiftly moving cobras. The several fallen exiles built a fine wall, except the cobras were all trapped on the shore side instead of the interior of the cave (mainly because of the chewing rats that got in their way).

Luce showed off her impressive mastery of the caduceus, by raising Mjollnir and Coeur de Leon from the water when they were fallen far ashore and out of her sight, but to no avail, as the cobras quickly turned and felled them both again.

Eventually, the rescue group reached a critical mass, and Crunch ran ashore in what seemed a suicide mission, but he managed to come away bloody, but safely, with four fallens on his chain.

In the end, we didn't get to do much hunting. Mouser, the worst of the fallens, required more than the five healers who had rowed out to help, and had to be towed to town.

Fordi, day 43 of Autumn, 546.

I have been studying far too much of late, but sometimes it is hard to find the way to the door from the deeper recesses of the Library. When I have been out, coins have been foremost in my mind.

I have noted that the plumage on Common Vultures has become much more drab lately. Instead of the garish blue feathers, they now all seem to sport a dull grey. I have not seen any of the blue variety around in any of their usual perches, but suspected that the dull grey ones were the females and the bright blue ones showoff males, but after close examination I found that both male and female are now dull grey. Curious ...

Today, I joined in a hunt in the Valley with a small group. It was most POS members, with a few assorted other clans represented.

We did just fine over a few passes back and forth, until one moment where Habbakuk Lal fell very hard to an onrush of Cave Cobras. With just Thuja and Iho healing, we were a bit low on Horus training, but thankfully Iho carried a red healing potion that was able to get Habbakuk into the healable range so we could continue as a group.

It's always fun to do a nice hunt with a strong and competent group. I just wish I could find the time to do it more often.

Since my friend and teacher K'Pyn was along, I also took the opportunity to refresh my lesson plan with him.
