Soldi, day 26 of Spring, 547.
More hunts at Melabrion's Island, more
chaining practice.
It seems that every time I go there, I end up chaining out handfuls of pounded and shredded exiles.
I wore out my third chain of the week, and hunted hard at furs to gather the coins to reforge all three. If I keep this up, I will certainly have to train quite a but more with Loovma Geer, or risk going totally broke.
In my other wanderings, today I heard of four separate Forest Drakes being spotted and hunted. I managed to arrive in time to help hunt two of these. Four Drake sightings within an hour is a very unusual degree of activity for these large and rare beasts.
Terrdi, day 1 of Spring, 547.
Ahh, Spring! When mens' fancy turns
to thoughts of hunting!
Today I joined a heavily DFU group in a hunt at Melabrion's Island, and (not surprisingly) ended up doing a lot of chaining.
But who knew we would find a very Angry Mother Sasquatch lying in wait for us?
All told, I collected at least 30 fallens at various times today. I also broke two chains.
I figure I was due, since the previous one had lasted quite some time.
Quite some time after the DFU group had
given up on killing that AMS, I joined Urgelt and Shen Calin to kill a Sun Wyrm
at the Rocky Cavern.
We then assembled this heavily POS group to finally kill the AMS and continue on through the island passes and into Melabrion's Keep. It's always good to get together with fellow POS members on a hunt.
We had a couple mis-steps when Shen Calin, who was bloodblading, got flattened by Mud Golem rocks and had to be dragged to town for healing. A risky strategy, bloodblading. But incredibly effective too.
We also found out that one cannot push a fallen Pass Key holder into a locked door in the Keep to open it, since Shen had Elenis' key in his pack.
We had a very nice hunt and managed to kill quite a number of Mud Golems. It seemed to me that Golems got a bit tougher, since I vanquished every one today (some 20 of them), but had killed close to half of them on previous hunts (before the recent Chaos Storm).
Shen Calin also showed us a small
room in the castle I hadn't noticed before, where Melabrion's Gemsmith polishes
raw rubies into fine gems.
I have never seen a Mud Golem drop a raw gem, but I am told that they do this on rare occassions. Their soul, if the foul and unnatural things have one?
Soldi, day 88 of Winter, 547.
Yesterday was Sombdi, so I took the
opportunity to test my skills at the Coliseum. I arrived pretty early in the
evening, and had the place almost to myself.
I inquired whether the Beastmaster had acquired any new creatures for the Ring. Sasquatches? Midnight Wendeckas? Olive Arachnoids? Toh'kans? Always the answer was "No, we have none of those". They really need to make further efforts to acquire more exotic beasts.
I limbered up by killing several Orga Wraths in quick succession. Then I decided to try my luck with two Wraths at once.
Three times I tried, and three times they got the better of me. Ouch!
Once bothWraths started attacking me, it was over, since I can evade blows well enough from one of these beasts but not two.
And the Orga Frenzy remains beyond my ability to strike effectively.
By the time the Midnight bell sounded,
I was alone in the Coliseum. It was a sad reminder to me of busier times, when
raucous betting action filled the air, and the long list of exiles on the fight
roster stretched the action long into the wee hours.
I left, reluctantly, and headed to hunt for coins.
Knightshade called out that he was being chased by a Drake in the North Forest.
I found the Forest Drake skulking outside the Feral Den, and accompanied by a large pack of Ferals and many Large Vermines. Slowly I whittled down the junk and finally had the Drake trapped against a tree. I coaxed Knightshade to return to help fight the beast.
With no healers in the vicinity, however, we decided to press the attack anyway. Knightshade ended up falling to the intense flames, but we heavily damaged the Drake in one flurry of attacks.
Soon, healers arrived and we swifty finished off this large specimen.
Fordi, day 79 of Winter, 547.
I was off hunting for furs today, when
Eisenbieger sunstoned for help in Zerkwood on Devil's Island, where he reported
sighting an Orga Fury. Then he called for help again, since there were two Furies
chasing him. When he called about the third one, I was already running toward
the docks.
When I got there, I was amazed to see five! of these rare beasts roaming about, and I was pleased as can be to help Eisenbieger and Togoko kill them all.
It is very curious to see so many powerful Orga so far from their strongholds in the Outback.
It makes one wonder whether there are more Orga yet lurking in the far corners of Devil's Island. I did scan about a bit for others, but didn't see any other unusual Orga activity on the island.
What I did notice was a low-hanging branch
across that Eastern river that prevents easy passage from the South to North
sides of the island.
I found that I was easily able to swing across the rapids on these branches to the far bank. A most useful shortcut for my occassional Wendecka and Dark Vermine fur hunts in this part of the island. I doubt I am the first to notice this shortcut, as the branch looked a bit worn from use, but it was a nice new one to me.
Terrdi, day 63 of Winter, 547.
After a long Winter's nap and some
serious studying, and I awake to find that another Chaos Storm has already swept
through the Lands.
It was funny to finally poke my nose out of the library door into the light of day, and get noticed. I think I got more good karma for simply walking out that door than I have for any chaining or heroics I've done in months.
I did look around the Lands some today, but have not had time for my usual post-Storm explore. Hopefully "soon".
Clearly, the passes on the island that holds Melabrion's Keep are still dangerous for the solo explorer/hunter ...
