Sombdi, day 81 of Autumn, 550.
Jade dragged me out of the library
at an unusual hour today to go on a hunt in Sasquatch Valley.
I had not been in the Valley in quite some time, so I joined the nice group pictured here. As usual, I took the lead pathfinder spot on the way in. Thankfully there were no Cave Cobras in the entry cave, but we did find a surplus of Stinging Beetles.
In the Valley itself, we found mainly Valley Cougars and Young Sasquatch, but also ran into a bevy of Cave Cobras and a few scattered Valley Panthers. We ended up making a couple of passes across the Valley.
Due to the high Skea and Dentir skills of Cyrril Co'Fei, we accumulated a number of coins. It's very satisfying to see those 30 and 40 coin pelts gathered properly and regularly.
One thing that was a bit unusual on this hunt is that I was the closest thing to a Brick present. For the Beetles and Valley Cougars, this wasn't much of a problem. But for Young Sasquatch and Valley Panthers, I was very thankful for the quick healing provided by the skillful healers along. I felt the weight of the responsibility for defense that I usually depend on other fighters for, and overall it was a good feeling. In the end, all made it through safely and profitably, and that's what counts.
Fordi, Day 59 of Autumn.
Swengus today raised his estimate
of my skills once again, to 1000 lessons. Very nice!
Since since obtained my Training Ledger from Swengus recently, I have trained only with Evus. Those 17 Evus lessons contained about 10 Swengus lessons that I needed to reach 1000, so I am now sure that my Ledger required 990 lessons, not 980. The next one he grants should take 1000 lessons.
Not much excitement in hunting lately. The Lands have been rather quiet, and the usual exiles I would hunt Kizmia's or Melabrion's Islands with have just not been around much. I have been earning coins like mad though.
Merdi, day 30 of Autumn, 550.
Since Babajaga had left me with
a Glowing Club and a Bright Club, I performed some tests in the Northwest Forest
and the Vermine Tree: The Bright Club needs about 80% of full balance to swing,
Glowing needs 65%. I bought a Flickering Club to compare (10c), and saw that
it needed 50% of full balance. (I have heard that Brilliant needs 100%, but
didn't test it.)
I basically have one swing with any of those three clubs, so in the end in a target-rich hunting area they felt the same except for the % of balance locked away and how fast the second swing appears.
When drunk (on herpetid poison), I could still swing, as the % of balance I needed to start swinging was pushed downward by the poison rather than being replaced by it (and making a swing impossible).
Overall, I felt like a high Detha, low Swengus fighter must feel. Not worried about taking hits but well aware of how slowly the swings were available and how difficult it is to get out once surrounded by junk. Except I still took a lot of little nibbles from the lucky Vermine, so my health seemed to drop faster than if I had used my axe, since I was surrounded far longer.
Being used to having three swings instantly available, and a fourth just a mere moment behind, I just felt very sluggish with these weapons, and more so the 'brighter' they were. Every swing felt like the next swing after totally overswinging (which is what it really is).
In a hunt at the Glacier
on Kizmia's island last night, we hunted mainly Tae-su Lyfelidae.
At one point, we ran into a 'friendly' Tae-su Lyfelidae. I pulled out my Fell Blade to attack it anyway, and was surprised to see that it no longer was able to strike the beast. Nor do the Gossamer or Blodblade, apparently, since none of these three weapons is 'sticky' anymore.
However, the new Dueling Blade does work fine for this. I'm glad I bought one now.
We also ran into several gold-colored Lyfelidae. Mujin-kunimmediately stopped and checked whether they were Starbucks, and when she found that they were, she immediately had us withdraw to a safe distance. Apparently, Starbucks have become significantly harder to kill and substantially more dangerous in recent days, whether due to the night, the Moon or the recent Chaos Storm. We hunted the Tae-su around them, but they didn't like being ignored. One of them hit me from full to yellow in a single blow to the back. Ouch! We left these for after dawn.
