Fordi, day 51 of Winter, 554.

For some time now, I have been a member of a team of exiles exploring the deep expanses of the Pitch Arachnoid caverns in the Foothills. We have been avoiding public notice for much of this time, but the group decided to announce some of their successes and the trials necessary to gain those, which I have been recording here. The short version is that we have breached a second section of Pitch caverns that are "deep below an Orga Stronghold". More information and trip reports will be released from time to time as any progress warrants it.

My regular forays into the Pitch caves have allowed me to acquire this skein of silk from a vanquished Arachnoid.

Goodness knows I've slogged through enough thrown webs and been tangled helplessly in this stuff enough times.

I have asked around with a number of Puddleby residents and more scattered folks, but no one seems to know what use this could be put to. Longbow string? Fishing net? Rope? Time will tell.

I joined this group just after Midnight this morning to clear the East cove at Kizmia's Island.

In addition to the three Orgaberry Lyfelidae we found just outside the cave, we vanquished several Tae-su and Pink Lyfelidae on the Glacier, as well as an Ice Giant. On the way out we found an additional three Flower Lyfelidae. Not a bad haul.

It took some number of attempts and not a few falls to finally finish all these powerful beasts off, including this particular Orgaberry Lyfelidae that tried to infect me.

Thank goodness I was wearing my Catsbane Necklace and it was still working it's protective spell.

Several days ago, this small group decided to head to the Foothills to poke around. Instead we found trouble much closer to home.

Advancing through Hatred Hollow, folks made a fateful decision to bypass the South pit, North pit and the Lake pit, and just advance right into the Orga Outback. I thought it was too aggressive, and was unfortunately correct. I did manage to grab J'jh (the rod point) after she fell close to the exit, and pass through into the Orga Outback. Unfortunately, I found yet another Warlock in my way in the Outback and since I was already grievously wounded, I fell just a step away from the safety of the Trainer Grotto. I didn't see anyone else make it out of Hatred Hollow alive. Most fell quite close to the exit, but were overcome by an impressive display of Orga firepower.

Instead of recovering health in the Trainer Grotto for the run back to help the others, I was fallen in a worse spot, and had brough J'jh with me. I probably should have run back through the path to Bones snell instantly. Tough call.

Thankfully, Sa'Wrap had safely made it through to the Trainers Grotto before I had the exit path from Hatred Hollow in sight, and he was able to raise J'jh and I once we got his attention. We all then returned to Bones' snell, and began forming a rescue for the others.

As many exiles began filtering out to the deep Snaggywood, we started small clearing runs into Hatred Hollow. However, the others were fallen beyond the Lake, and unreachable by quick chain runs. Eventually a group gathered, and we began to advance toward the fallens. However, the intensity of the lightning kept driving us back, and I fell during the retreat. With more new arrivals, the rescue squad tried again, and again, but made no real progress toward retroeving anyone.

Eventually, a substantial group had gathered in Snaggywood, and fallens retrieved over many attempts. During the final push in, I myself helped kill 6 Orga Hemlocks in the Lake and North pits. No wonder the lightning seemed so terrible!

After all that effort and time, we thought better of attempting to reach the Foothills today, and returned to town to lick our wounds.

One odd thing I noticed since the Chaos Storm is the sudden appearance of a rock outcropping in the Northern Plains. The tree to the left hides the tunnel leading into the Chamelopod pen.

I searched all around these rocks, but saw no hint of any paths or caves there. Very curious!
