Merdi, day 84 of Summer, 557.
Today, I had the sad honor
of accompanying Nelaton as she began her final journey, into that last great
unknown.
Nelaton felt that Brune had utterly spurned her, as if their love over these many years together meant nothing. What actually transpired between them, I don't know, but Nelaton was clearly distraught and inconsolable, and had been for some time.
I was stunned when she announced that she had decided that her life in exile was over.
Unable to dissuade her from ending her life, I resolved to assist her as best I could, as a way to help preserve her legacy.
She handed me each of her worldly possessions in turn, with a word as to who should receive it as a remembrance. I will be passing these out to the exiles she intended as I see them.
To the end, she was a fearless rescue healer, even breaking off her own troubles and final preparations to do one last rescue.
At last, as empty-handed and naked as the day she arrived on these far shores, she left this world.
All of Puddleby will miss you, Nelaton!
Melabrion has directed
his agent Alleet to move to Melabrion's conference room from his former residence
in the Etheral Plane.
I think Melabrion believes that we exiles might more easily cough up our payment for the armor technology he is selling if Alleet is more readily accessible.
This strategy seems to be working, since I have escorted Talin and others there to donate a large number of potions of energy already. Alleet is still asking for casks of stout and a few other odds and ends, as well as a lot more coins and a drinking song by Phineas. We'll see how soon all these things are turned over.
Terrdi, day 56 of Summer, 557.
After
finally finally getting the chance to train with Trillbane's Commentaries
on Ways, I went all out to be sure I had learned all I could before the
next PAG trip in case there was an additional chapter I needed to read.
It turned out to be a mixed blessing.
Before the Chao Storm, I did learn all I could from Chapter 1 of that book. First this proves that there is at least one additional chapter awaiting us. Second, the Storm itself was much more chaotic than usual, so I was unable to do any serious hunting afterward since so many exiles were unable to exit the Library for so long. But since I had already finished, I was ready for another chapter anyway, although the PAG trip was a disaster and I didn't get my chance anyway (more on that elsewhere). Being the first exile having learned a new chapter in pathfinding, I was hopeful I might start seeing paths others had missed, or maybe even openning some of the unopenned paths we know of. After a lot of fruitless searching and testing, I have come up dry. No unopenned path I have looked at (that is, every one we know of) has yielded for me, or even converted from one sparklie to two. And despte scouring the Lands for new paths, I have found none.
My feeling now is that we shall need all lessons in Trillbane's Commentaries and in The Tao of Trillbane to see any major changes in the shortcuts we have access to.
I was really quite amazed
at myself unleashing the rankwhore within.
With a constant eye open for hunts with any experience, I prowled the Islands for an entire zodiac.
With the help of friends in the Puddleby Task Force, I was able to spend a productive day in the Abyss killing Liche and vanquishing Abyssal Hunters.
As always, the entry was pretty harsh (shown here), and took some attempts to get right.
But once we had the Abyss under control, we just sat back and crushed each wave of new beasts as they appeared until the others tired of the sport.
I went to
the Jade Noids cavern to help vanquish the Emerald Arachnoid there.
And the the Dredwood, to hunt Dredlocks.
And to Melabrion's passes for Young Sasquatch, and his mines for Tok'hans.
And when all else failed and there was no group to be found, I wandered the Foothills alone, dispatching Midnight Wendecka.
But
mostly I spent a lot of time hunting on Kizmia's Island.
Night after night I hunted with groups there, mostly with Mujin-kun.
I went at every opportunity, and would have stayed there constantly if I could have managed it.
While there on one trip, I completed the Harvest Lyfelidae challenge, winning some coins, a mounted Lyfelidae head and some highly-desired experience.
So, well before the time limit I set for myself, I found myself unable to learn any more, and was exhorted by Ankrus to seek out the Commentaries again to read chapter 2.
As if I needed his encouragement!
In my wanderings
around the Lands, I have refreshed my acquaintance with many areas I rarely
ever go to, looking for paths with extra keen eyes.
But I have also tried to remember to stop and smell the flowers now and then too.
I have helped out with several
rescues lately.
Here Gilgamesh was caught trying to escape from Jannar's Grove, and had accumulated such a thick blanket of Scavenger Birds that the area was not enterable. I had to go around to the back entry, and killed a large number of Birds before being able to reach and chain him away.
Since many folks are hunting in Dredwood, fallens chanted to the Orga Village are an all-too-common occurance. Twice in recent days I have led groups through the Foothills and Orga Outback to reach fallens in the Orga Village. And if I weren't busy with other hunting, I could have done it a couple more times too.
I was also the object of a large rescue. Yor and I were picking our way across the Foothills looking at blocked caves as we headed for the Orga Village, when I was crushed by a landslide. Since Yor has no shovel, it took a lot of effort and time for him to dig me out. By that time, the passes refilled with Midnight Wendecka, and he was clobbered by rocks while trying to chain me out. It took a large group of exiles to finally work its way to us and chain us home to be raised.
