Exploration: "Almost" to Abyss 2
Lundi, day 60 of Winter, 559.
The
Lands are capricious.
One day an area is empty even of the wind whistling through the rocks, and the next it is overfull with fierce beasts.
I was with a group heading into the Foothills not long ago, when we stepped from a cave to find ourselves surrounded by a large group of Midnight Wendecka.
We managed to whittle them down despite many pebbles thrown our way, and then headed on our way deeper into the Foothills to Ash Valley (where such excess is expected).
But woe betide the lone traveler, or small group, that runs into a mass of pain like this!
Once surrounded, the unwary exile is doomed to fall hard to a fusillade of pebbles.
I joined a group hunting
the Abyss recently.
Once we had cleared that fiery area, we took a look at the entryway to the next level, ingeniously named "Abyss 2".
With some poking about we found out two things we didn't know: there are very narrow tracks across the lava that one can tread to get to the stone platform unscathed, and the platform can hold closer to a dozen exiles safely, instead of the 9 or so that had been suspected.
One thing we knew that we re-learned the hard way: earthquakes and spawns are frequent in the Abyss.
And all crowded together on a narrow platform next to boiling lava is not the place to be in either case. Or both.
I never did get to enter the Frozen sector of the Abyss, as the group assembling to enter there to deliver a crushing blow was reduced to ashes in mere moments ...
Thankfully, the Abyss is a relatively easy rescue, and we were all retrieved safely.
Having gone
on several trips to Melabrion's Mines in recent weeks, I was finally lucky enough
to win a much-needed Tin ore.
Between my own ore collecting over the past years, and begging and buying a couple of additional Tin ingots, I finally have enough metals to have some armor made.
I still have not heard any definitive judgement about whether Iron or Bronze Armor is better, based on decent tests.
I'll just have to make a set and test it myself, and maybe talk someone else into loaning me the other type to compare.
Or maybe I will make only the two types of shields and compare those, and keep one and sell the other later.
